Scarce mid-70's U.S. release of breezy, melodic West-Coast Folk-Rock album by quartet from Oregon; nice acoustic/ electric armouries ... guitars, piano, drums, bass, mandolin, steel guitar, femme back-ups ...; there's flashes of San Fran Sound magic ‡ la OASIS/ RJ FOX! great pencil-drawing on front cover showin' 'em monkeys belaguering the White House...~

Blackhawk County included Debbie York (vocals), Scott Riordan (vocals, pianoforte, harpsichord), Doug Fraser (solo guitar), Spencer Palermo (bass guitar), Jim Graziano (drums) and Bill Coleman (vocals, acoustic guitar ). Produced by them was Ron Stassens. The history of the band begins in 1973, when the folk-rock duet Bill Coleman-Scott Riordan was formed. Both, by the way, studied at the same Western Oregon University. In 1974, the guys recorded their debut EP "Oregon (I Can not Go Home) / Helplessly", released on the label "Seagull Records". By the way, the single was dedicated to Joann McDaniels, a native of Oregon, arrested and imprisoned in Turkey on charges of drug smuggling. this single became a # 1 hit in the northwest of the US, rising to the 16th place in the national Billboard charts. Besides, this thing has been a huge success with army radio stations, including in Vietnam. The success of the minion inspired Bill and Scott to create a band with which to tour. And the tour was a lot and very successful. The musicians warmed up the audience before the performances of Jerry Lee Lewis, Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, The Beau Brummels, Flo & Eddy (from The Turtles), etc. Finally, in 1974, the guys recorded their only LP "Monkey Zoo". after which young people only toured, not looking up for studio work. In 1978, the group disbanded due to the fact that the founders of the team decided to start a solo career. And the tour was a lot and very successful.
