Elonkorjuu "Harvest Time" 1972 Finnish Heavy Prog classic

Elonkorjuu  "Harvest Time" 1972 mega rare Finnish Heavy Prog classic
Elonkorjuu  "Hey Hunter" {HQ} 1972

Their ultra-collectable 1972 album Harvest Time is a heavy progressive gem, full of ripping guitar and wild organ… wailing English-language vocals, melodic moody parts, many mathy changes, and galloping riffage are also all elements of the sometimes complex Elonkorjuu equation. Although fairly heavy for the time, they also have a generally “happy” sound, one that’s often hectic too, these guys obviously reveling in their music making prowess. Their fervor is infectious, this is great stuff for anyone who loves other early ’70s prog-psych acts of this ilk like Trettioariga Kriget, Wishbone Ash, Cargo, Culpeper’s Orchard, Murphy Blend, Steamhammer, Wind, Irish Coffee, Osage Tribe, Odmenn, Blues Addicts, Stonewall, Toad, Road, etc.

While they only recorded one more album in the late ’70s, the talent and exuberance displayed on Harvest Time earned ’em (and Finland) a spot in early, obscure hard rock history, for sure. Forever underground, they even title a song here ‘Praise To Our Basement’, wherein these young long haired hippies first had first begun jamming back in ’69…...........

Finnish quintet Elonkorjuu are one of the many little-known bands that did heavy blues/psych with strong prog elements, drawing initially from the schools of Cream, Black Sabbath and Colosseum but expanding on those influences with soulful church organ and cutting guitar from leader Jukka Syrenius.
No obvious pull here for the jaded progster but many little surprises hidden just beneath the surface, and Elonkorjuu is worth investigation if you have an ear for the shadowy and mysterious world of early heavy progressive rock........

Elonkorjuu came from Pori, Finland and was founded in 1969. At first the sessions were done in a rather dark cellar; the musicians were young, talented and highly motivated. Already in the same year Elonkorjuu won the second place at a competition at Helsinki's House of Culture. Short time after this the band's success grow very fast. They toured through whole of Finland and quickly were well known. One of the band's highlights was the gig at the rock festival in Turku, where they did act big ahead of hundred thousands youths, who went wild about the phantastic band. At the end of the same year they decided to make an LP, titled 'Harvest Time'. This album recieved cult status of the progressive rock.

A killer album from beginning to end. Heavy guitar work all over and great English vocals. ....

Elonkorjuu was founded in the western Finnish city of Pori in the autumn of 1969. A year later the band was awarded with the second place in the 1970 Finnish Rock Championship contest and was signed by EMI. Elonkorjuu released their debut album Harvest Time in 1972. Today the original pressing is considered the most expensive Finnish vinyl album with a price up to € 1,500. It was re-released as a CD in 2002. During the 1970s Elonkorjuu was often featured in the major Finnish music festivals such as Ruisrock and Pori Jazz.

In 1978 the band released their second album Flying High, Running Fast under the name Harvest, which is an English translation of Elonkorjuu. The album was released by RCA Records and Elonkorjuu's goal was an international breakthrough, but the band finally split instead. The guitarist Jukka Syrenius moved to Norway and released several albums with his new group Jukka Syrenius Band, also featuring some international musicians like the American drummerClifford Jarvis, the South African bassist Johnny Dyani and the Norwegian keyboardist Haakon Graf.

Elonkorjuu was formed again in 2003 and the following year the band released their third studio album. In December 2009 Elonkorjuu played a 40th anniversary concert in Pori Theatre. It was later released as a double live album. In 2012 EMI released a 4-CD boxed set including almost every track the band has ever recorded. The box also includes rare live material from the 1970s. Today the guitarist Jukka Syrenius and bass player Veli-Pekka Pessi are the only original members of the band. The present line-up features the Hungarian-born drummer Zoltán Kárpáti, keyboardist Jussi Reunamäki and the saxophonist Jari Perkiömäki who holds a Doctor of Music degree in jazz music from the Sibelius Academy. ............
