George Jinda “The Wheel Of Love” 1976 France Jazz Rock Fusion

George Jinda “The Wheel Of Love” 1976 France Jazz Rock Fusion
full
Very rare debut solo album from Hungarian drummer Jinda, who was a widely travelled player in the 70’s French prog scene and, at the time of this record, a member of Yochk'o Seffer’s post-Magma unit Speed Limit. Seffer’s playing on this one too, alongside Heldon bassist Didier Batard. Quite a cast! The Wheel Of Love is a furious and sadly rather forgotten zeuhl gem that splits the difference between Zao and (especially) Magma keyboardist Benoit Widemann’s solo debut “Stress” in it’s mix of airy lyricism and slightly funk inflected zeuhl fury…………

The drummer George Jinda is a leader because he produced the record, but he shared the composition work mainly with Jean-Louis Bucchi and Jeff Seffer (they had previously played together in the Speed Limit group). It is not known what to expect a priori of this disc with its pouch very style “Emmanuelle” (???) and which is sometimes (wrongly) classified among the Zeuhl (due to the presence of Seffer on certain pieces, Or perhaps the Didier Bâtard seismic bass game?). In fact it’s a totally instrumental French jazz-rock record, one more, but maybe a little bit above the lot, though not thanks to its rather banal themes in general. The interest here comes from the energy released (even if there are some softer passages, especially the piece that gives its title to the album, one of the few actually attributed to Jinda, with Seffer to the flute …) , With a funky side quite marked in places (not possible that the Zeuhl funke like that, even in full phase II …), or trying more experimental stuff; All this is improved by a grasp of its fat which nimbuses the music of a somewhat obscure atmosphere, but detailed enough however to highlight the interpretation all the more alive as it seems semi-improvised of each musician (Bucchi To the keyboards, Seffer, Bastard, and the unknown but excellent Pascal Bournet on guitar) ……..
