Victor Peraino's Kingdom Come evolved out of the dissolution of the legendary Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come in 1974.Peraino was the keyboard player in the album and upon returning to his homeland in Detroit, USA he somehow kept the rights to use the name for a new band he was about to set up.He recruited two bassists, two guitarists, two drummers, a flutist and with him on keyboards, lead voices and production the album ''No man's land'' was recorded and released privately in 1975.
''No man's land'' is a strange album.However its quality is undenieable, even if the leading force is Hard/Psych Rock, not unlike Peraino's experience next to Arthur Brown on ''Journey'', along with some powerful doses of US-styled Pomp Rock.But this is some very dense, rich, passionate and 100% progressive music with Peraino becoming a star throughout, having an impressive arsenal of keyboards, including Moog and ARP synthesizers, Hammond organ and Mellotron.The music is impressive to say the least.One of the most energetic and instrumentally rich US Prog Rock albums of the period with many diverse influences, based on a Hard Prog style.Some tracks are very complex with tons of breaks and fantastic use of synthesizers, very fast flute lines akin to JETHRO TULL and grandiose, pompous vocals, not unlike NEW ENGLAND.Other pieces are straightforward Hard/Pomp Rock with a few proggy vibes, KANSAS could be an easy comparison during these cuts, with rough guitar moves, groovy passages and more clean singing lines.And of course there is some fair dose of Symphonic/Pomp Rock with dominant Mellotron waves, showered by the sharp ARP synths of Peraino with even some great guitar runs over the tracks' length.A couple of very short, instrumental pieces burst a more spacey mood, heavily relying on Peraino's psychedelic synth explorations.

I doubt this album got some serious notice around the time of its release, but one of the best reissues around is the one by Black Widow Records, which includes four tracks from the 81' EP ''We're next'', when the band was performing as Kingdom.Of course the music is more accesible with glamourous vocals, total lack of vintage keys in the sake of synthesizers and scratching, guitar riffs with a Proto-Metal/Hard/Glam Rock attitude.Some funky touches and a dull sax part are also present.One of the tracks is a new version of Arthur Brown's classic piece ''Fire''.

There are some more keyboard wizards in this world except Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks and Keith Emerson.Victor Peraino is definitely one of them and ''No man's land'' is a great document of pompous Hard/Symph/Psych Rock with plenty of amazing keyboard deliveries, not to mention the nice work on guitars and flute.Strongly recommended.........by apps79 ............

In the 70's Victor PERAINO recorded on Polydor Records in England with the father of theatrical rock, Arthur BROWN, known for his million selling hit'FIRE'. ARTHUR BROWN'S KINGDOM COME 'JOURNEY' was critically acclaimed as a landmark in the music industry, the first recording to feature a drum machine. On this recording Victor played keyboards, mellotron. moog synthesizer. vcs3, theremin and provided vocals. After ARTHUR BROWN'S KINGDOM COME disintegrated, American keyboard player Victor Peraino somehow retained the name, releasing 'NO MAN'S LAND' in '75 under the name VICTOR PERAINO'S KINGDOM COME, reissued by BLACK WIDOW in 2010. He also worked with such notable artists as QUEEN, MANFRED MANN, Dave EDMUNDS, Brian ENO, Daevid ALLEN of Gong , HAWKWIND and THE EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND.

After about 40 years, Victor and Arthur decided to collaborate again, resurrecting the project KINGDOM COME and in this new musical adventure, reproduced in a new guise some of the best songs included in 'NO MAN'S LAND' (''DEMON OF LOVE'', ''SUN SETS SAIL'', ''EMPIRES OF STEEL''), take up the theme of the wonderful ''TIME CAPTIVES'' from 'JOURNEY' turning it into a cross-section sidereal enriched by the magnificence of space keyboards, revitalise in a progressive key two old classics like'DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD'' and ''I PUT A SPELL ON YOU'' but they also offer some brand new compositions (''WE ONLY COME TO HELP YOU'', ''FUTURE'', the title track, ''WALK WITH ANGELS'') deploying an odyssey of lovely sounds, underpinned by the omnipresent as ever presence of Mellotron, Moog, VCS3, in an uninterrupted flow of emotions..................

Back in the early-mid 70’s, Arthur Brown’s KINGDOM COME was a mind-blowing experience in both ‘live’ and studio settings! They performed keyboard/guitar driven Cosmic Progressive Rock with the aid of a Bentley drum machine and bass player for a rhythm section, and of course Arthur’s surreal vocal style. The band took its listeners on unimaginably breathtaking psychedelic trips the likes of which they hadn’t encountered before – a bit like HAWKWIND meeting early KING CRIMSON or the MOODY BLUES and KRAFTWERK head on!
I remember getting people who had never owned a space-rock LP (or anything like it) into the band’s timeless classic ‘Journey’ LP and the wonderful ‘Spirit Of Joy’ single taken from it.
But the life of the band was short-lived and they broke up not too long after.
Arthur Brown continued on in the UK as a solo artist, but (for me) the man behind the real KINGDOM COME sound – keyboards player Victor Peraino with his Mellotron 400, Mini Moog and VCS3 synthesizers seemed to disappear into obscurity!
However back in 2010 a CD recorded by Victor Peraino’s KINGDOM COME emerged from a small Italian label and we subsequently discovered that this was in fact a re-issue of an LP independently released in the US not long after the break-up of the original band!

It turned out that following the disintegration of the amazing Space-Rock outfit that was ARTHUR BROWN’s KINGDOM COME and, American keyboard player Victor Peraino somehow retained the name and released: ‘No Man's Land’ in 1975 (re-issued on CD in 2010 and now stocked at CDS Towers) under the moniker of VICTOR PERAINO’s KINGDOM COME.

Now, after forty long years, Victor and Arthur have decided to collaborate again, and resurrect the band – oh what joy!
For the ‘Journey In Time’ album they have re-recorded some of their best songs, including tracks from: ‘No Mans Land’ (‘Demon Of Love’, ‘Sun Sets Sail’, ‘Empires Of Steel’), and they have taken the theme of the wonderful: ‘Time Captives’ from ‘Journey’, and turned it into a cross-section sidereal enriched by the magnificence of spacey keyboards. Add to this, reworkings of the classic songs: ‘Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood’ and ‘I Put A Spell On You’; throw in some brand new compositions: ‘We Only Come to Help You’, ‘Future’, ‘Journey In Time’ and ‘Walk With Angels’ which deploy an odyssey of epic sounds - underpinned by the ever present sounds of the Mellotron, plus Moog and VCS3 synthesizers, in an uninterrupted flow of emotions - and you have one sure-fire great album! ...............

Prolusion. The UK band KINGDOM COME was the band of British artist Arthur Brown in the first half of the 70's, releasing three critically acclaimed albums before they folded in 1974. The keyboardist in the final line-up, US musician Victor Peraino, was given and used the opportunity to continue using the band name, and released a single album in 1975 as Victor Peraino's Kingdom Come. Since then news around the band have been fairly quiet, although it would appear that there's been a bit of activity. Featuring Arthur Brown on vocals again, "Journey in Time" is the second full-length production issued by the US based version of the band, and was released through the Italian label Black Widow Records in 2014.

Analysis. I will have to admit that my knowledge about Kingdom Come, prior to be sent this CD, was limited to the activities of a German band that has used the same band name for a few decades now. And when I did a bit of research about this album and this band, this CD struck me as something of an oddity. A couple of cover versions, a handful of old compositions in more or less new guise and a handful of new tracks. The kind of album bands in the days of old would release in between heavy bouts of touring, and not what one would normally expect from a band that has come together again following almost 4 decades of keeping a really low profile. The content itself is just about as odd as the context too. To kick off with the bonus DVD straight away, this is a mere half hour, the grater majority of a stage performance of the current version of the band playing some of the songs represented on the album. If it is truly a concert I don't really know, as the performance sounds very much like the songs on the CD. Which may indicate that those songs are recorded live, or that the live performance may be one utilizing playback, or that the sound from the live performance has been replaced with the studio version of the tracks performed. It is an odd one, no matter how you regard it. And as far as the footage from the 80's is concerned, that is basically a commercial/news item aired on MTV for a rock opera starring Kingdom Come that I've never heard about until just now. If it is a low key project from back then or a project that crashed before it went live is another of those issues I don't know anything about. Still, to call it an interview is to describe this content in a less than accurate context. It's not erroneous as such, as there is an interview section in there, but way too brief and too focused on the aforementioned project to represent what most people would expect when seeing the word interview. The core style of Kingdom Come as of 2014 appears to be a brand of melodic hard rock that is comparable to classic Deep Purple. Organ and guitar combinations are central elements throughout, and fairly often certain key passages or dominant details make comparisons in that department unavoidable. This core foundation is liberally flavored with additional textures however, plenty of cosmic sounds that bring a Hawkwind and spacerock vibe to the proceedings, while additional and often flamboyant keyboard arrangements do add a touch of progressive rock to the proceedings as well. The latter aspect, combined with some passionate vocal details, does give some of the songs a slight Uriah Heep vibe too, and Arthur Brown's vocal skills obviously add a theatrical, melodramatic touch to the material. The end result isn't quite as compelling as one would expect, though. An additional touch of early 80's melodic hard rock does make a few of the songs sound rather dated, at least to my ears, and some of the songs just don't manage to gel for me. The main themes don't come across as all that compelling either, and fairly often I found the compositions to become too melodramatic. The ballad Walk with Angels didn't manage to convince me at all, while opening number We Only Came to Help You and the cover of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, (which is presumably based on The Animals cover version of this composition), never managed to escape the boundaries of the mediocre, as I experienced those songs. Pleasant enough fare, but too much bread and butter when you'd really prefer a juicy steak. Much the same can be said about Sunset Sail, where my main impression is that the band attempts to do a song in the vintage Genesis style, but doesn't quite manages to pull it off. On some occasions all the elements come into place in a more compelling manner however. The elongated Empires of Steel is an intriguing experience through and through, and the psychedelic-oriented Time Captives is another example of Kingdom Come as of 2014 firing on just about all cylinders. But the album highlight, at least as far as I'm concerned, is their version of Screaming Jaw Hawkwins’ I Put a Spell on You, a song that fits very well indeed with the somewhat pompous, melodramatic coating the classic has been given in this version.

Conclusion. Kingdom Come as of 2014 comes across as a band that still has a bit of development to do before they manage to combine their individual talents into a greater whole. Their brand of melodic vintage hard rock liberally flavored with cosmic effects and multi-layered keyboard arrangements does have its charm of course, and at best they explore some truly intriguing landscapes, but at this point the end result is somewhat uneven. If you enjoy this classic 70's band this album is worth taking a look at of course, and if you do find the description of the music interesting you can do a lot worse than giving this album a spin. A somewhat uneven production, but with some very fine moments worth experiencing......................

Arthur Brown has had a very long and varied musical career starting back in the 60s. In the early 70s he formed the band Kingdom Come to continue his theatrical histrionics and craziness. Kingdom Come released Galactic Zoo Dossier in 1971 and both Kingdom Come and Journey in 1972. After that the band broke up. And for some strange reason, their keyboardist Victor Peraino retained the rights to the band name and returned home to the US and LA to continue performing as Victor Peraino’s Kingdom Come. He released an album No Man’s Land in 1975 and that was it for about 40 years. Now Victor has reformed the band and convinced Arthur Brown to join as well. The new disc is a collection of updated songs from No Man’s Land and Journey, as well as some new songs and covers of Leonard Cohen’s “Future” and the Animals’ “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.” Considering that these guys are now in their late 60s/early 70s they can still really rock. The songs are Viagra laced hard rock songs. Arthur does not sing on all of the tunes, but when he does, hold on to your seat. These are the best times on the album. I especially like his current renditions of “I Put a Spell on You” and “Time Captives.”

There is also a companion DVD that contains five videos, four of which were recently recorded versions of “We Only Come to Help You,” “Empires of Steel,” “Time Captives,” and “Demon of Love.” The fifth is a short MTV video/interview from the 70s, which considering this must have been one of the first MTV productions, it is pretty lo-res and amateurish. I’m not real sure why this was included. It is difficult to determine if the other four videos were recorded in front of an audience or just in a sound studio. These are multi-media performances with video images, lasers, smoke machines, etc., but no applause or cheering. It is kind of creepy watching these old guys jump around the stage looking like glam rockers in satin capes. The lead guitarist has his shirt opened all the way down, at least he doesn’t have a flabby stomach! Arthur Brown only sings on “Time Captives” and he is not even physically present. His image is superimposed over the band. And he is the only one who looks comfortable in the mystical robes, more in line with his age.......by Henry Schneider.....
