Catarina Maria de França Carneiro better known as Cátia de França, since she has learned to master instruments like the piano, the accordion and the guitar. Later he became interested in the chords of the flute and percussion. She was a music teacher for some time, until she started composing in partnership with the poet Diógenes Brayner. He participated in popular music festivals in the 60’s, when he traveled to Europe with a folk group. Back in Brazil, he went to Rio de Janeiro, where he contacted other northeastern musicians such as Zé Ramalho, Elba Ramalho, Amelinha and Sivuca. The first solo LP, 20 Words Around the Sun, was released in 1979, with songs composed based on poems by João Cabral de Melo Neto. A song by the singer was a soundtrack to the movie Blood Crystals, 1975.
His music has as a source the literature, making references to the work of Guimarães Rosa, José Lins do Rego, Manoel de Barros, besides the mentioned João Cabral de Melo Neto. She was the stage partner of Jackson do Pandeiro during the first version of Projeto Pixinguinha in 1980. In about 40 years, Cátia recorded three LPs: Twenty Words Around the Sun, Shards and Happy Too, and two CDs: Avatar With contributions by Chico César and Shanghai) and Cátia de França sings Pedro Osmar, in which she demonstrates the creative force of the music of Paraíba.
Cátia also entered the world of literature and the plastic arts, with emphasis on the books Zumbi in Cordel, Speaking of Natural Nature (child) and Survival Manual, a rescue of his personal and professional trajectory.
