Catarina Maria de França Carneiro better known as Cátia de França, since she has learned to master instruments like the piano, the accordion and the guitar. Later he became interested in the chords of the flute and percussion. She was a music teacher for some time, until she started composing in partnership with the poet Diógenes Brayner. He participated in popular music festivals in the 60’s, when he traveled to Europe with a folk group. Back in Brazil, he went to Rio de Janeiro, where he contacted other northeastern musicians such as Zé Ramalho, Elba Ramalho, Amelinha and Sivuca. The first solo LP, 20 Words Around the Sun, was released in 1979, with songs composed based on poems by João Cabral de Melo Neto. A song by the singer was a soundtrack to the movie Blood Crystals, 1975.

His music has as a source the literature, making references to the work of Guimarães Rosa, José Lins do Rego, Manoel de Barros, besides the mentioned João Cabral de Melo Neto. She was the stage partner of Jackson do Pandeiro during the first version of Projeto Pixinguinha in 1980. In about 40 years, Cátia recorded three LPs: Twenty Words Around the Sun, Shards and Happy Too, and two CDs: Avatar With contributions by Chico César and Shanghai) and Cátia de França sings Pedro Osmar, in which she demonstrates the creative force of the music of Paraíba.

Cátia also entered the world of literature and the plastic arts, with emphasis on the books Zumbi in Cordel, Speaking of Natural Nature (child) and Survival Manual, a rescue of his personal and professional trajectory. The singer, celebrated all over the country, has lived in João Pessoa since the mid-1990s……..

For some time now I want to write about this work. I have the habit of putting the album to roll and on top of that the text is sprouting, but whenever I do it with the sound of Cátia de França, I find myself immersed in the most faithful musical atmosphere of the Northeast, listen to the entire album, Of another astral plane and I ask myself:

- How can so many people not know this woman, that sound, all the versatility, achieving with such a veracity to portray the Northeast, through its origins and poetic inspirations, having as one of its great “masters” the immortal Guimarães Rosa?

And there it was! I get up, I get the sound in my head, the pulsating doubt and indignation and I end up not writing.

Today, finally, I come to do justice. For those who do not know, here is the parabaean Catia of France.

In addition to being the owner of this strong voice, Cátia is an excellent instrumentalist, where she has played piano, accordion and guitar since she was a child; As well as flute and percussion.

He had as first partner the poet Diógenes Brayner and thus began this beautiful musical career.

The singer participated in regional festivals, as well as toured Europe and got to work in partnership with Jackson do Pandeiro, shortly before the “small note” departed.

The album I present today was the first of the artist’s career, where her compositions are all based on the work of another great name in literature, the illustrious Pernambuco João Cabral de Melo Neto.

This axis, created between literature and music, makes Catia’s work extremely rich. His voice loaded with this beautiful accent typical of his land, is capable of going from the embolada to the typical baião, traveling with such ease through all this “nordestinidade” and its riches.

The recording of the album is flawless. Modes of viola, many guitars, a great diversity of instruments, all executed with such competence; Make this work a find, impossible to hear and not fall in love.

All tracks are compositions by Cátia, some in partnership with names such as that of another illustrious Northeast, Shanghai.

I would not venture to mention just one song to be listened to, just as I can not hear just one or two, out of the order in the album. The idea I have is that they were composed for a complete audition and just in this sequence, as well as the great works of progressive rock, which had albums of 23 minutes, The difference is that Cátia shared this wonderful “northeastern epic” in acts (understand how bands) and presented us with this beautiful work.

Remember if! This album is a gift, do not make the undoing of not accepting and listening with great affection.

I can not get enough of it, the northeast is too beautiful …………

Interested in music since childhood, Cátia de França studied guitar, piano, accordion, percussion and flute. He traveled to Europe in the late 60’s, having been part of a folk group in that period. He moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he got in touch with other Northeastern artists who soon would reach success, such as Sivuca, Zé Ramalho, Amelinha and Shanghai.
