Peps & Blues Quality “Sweet Mary Jane" 1969 Swedish Psych Blues Rock

Peps & Blues Quality “Sweet Mary Jane" 1969 Swedish Psych Blues Rock

Very rare  Swedish pressing on SONET, # SLP 2501, 1969 with MARIHUANA gatefold cover. Peps Persson was probably the most important artist in introducing blues to Sweden in the late '60s and early '70s. In 1966, Peps Persson formed the group Downbeat Crowd and released a cover of Muddy Waters' "Got My Mojo Working" as a single. The first LP, "Blues Connection", was released in 1968 on Gazell and the name of the band was now Linkin' Louisiana Peps. The second album "Sweet Mary Jane" under the name Linkin' Louisiana Peps & Blues Quality released in 1969 on Sonet, a label he would keep
to for most of his career, and followed a traditional blues and R&B formula..........

In England there was John Mayall, in Denmark - Peter Torup, and in Sweden - Peps Persson. Just like Torup, he played and recorded with the legendary British and
American bluesmen Blues Quality appeared in the mid-60's in the town
Erebro, but soon moved to Stockholm. Persson came to the band in 1969 and very much influenced the only album. His juicy blues voice
Reminiscent of the vocals of Tony McPhee and even the black Chicago bluesmen. Two things were covers of Little Walter Jacobs and Lightnin 'Hopkins, the other five were written
Persson. Skoglund and Tingberg did a jazz background, allowing the band to improvise in a blues format. As a result, a powerful instrument with
A driving accordion, a sharp guitar, juicy organ chords, soul-jazz sax and blasting tubes, a little staccato piano and swing
Rhythm section. By level, this can be compared with the earlier work of Fleetwood Mac. The first cover of the album, where the guys sit in the bush of marijuana (a hint
In the name!), Was soon replaced by a more neutral one. In 1970, Persson was seriously ill and could no longer play with the band. When he again to them
Joined, it turned out, now they are moving in different musical directions. Then Persson went to Chicago and recorded an album with black
Bluesmen Sunnyland Slim and Jimmy Dawkins. It is highly recommended for the blues fans. Later records continued the blues-rock line,...............
