Baiano and the New Caetanos is the name of a musical and humorous trio composed by comedians Chico Anysio, Arnaud Rodrigues and Renato Piau satirizing in the title the set New Baianos and the singer Caetano Veloso. Born in the 70's as a satire to Tropicalism, the pair formed by Baiano and Paulinho Boca de Profeta (characters of Chico Anísio and Arnauld Rodrigues, respectively, in the humorous "Chico City") featured in their songs fun and engaged lyrics and an instrumental of First, with beautiful arrangements of guitars, accordions and cavaquinhos, among other instruments. Classics such as "Vô Batê Pá Tu", which speaks of the dictatorship's delusions, and "Urubu Tá com Raiva do Boi", a critique of the country's economic situation and the "Brazilian economic miracle", and the beautiful Folia de Reis, Made Baiano & Os Novos Caetanos a significant name in the universe of samba-rock and rural music......

The disc in question was released in 1974 to take advantage of the success of the characters Baiano and Paulinho, created by Chico Anysio and represented respectively by him and his greatest partner, the singer, composer, actor and also comedian Arnaud Rodrigues. The Baiano & The New Caetanos band made funny appearances at Chico City, one of several programs that Chico Anysio had on TV Globo's programming grid during the 1970s. The idea of the characters arose from the revolt that arrest and Caetano and Gil exile caused throughout the artistic milieu - served as a satire, yes (including among the New Baianos, de Moraes Moreira and Luiz Galvao), but it was a tribute to two artists whose arrest could not even be decently noticed in the national newspapers , Due to censorship. Attitudes such as that of the double Chico / Arnaud and that of another pair, Roberto and Erasmo (composing "Under the curls of his hair" for Caetano) helped to get the message under the door - and verses like that of Baiano's greatest success & The New Caetanos, already said everything. "Vô batê pá tu", a partnership between Arnaud Rodrigues and the Orlandivo samba rocker, took a heavy toll on the issue of the subversive artists' denunciation during the dictatorship period ("bate batá tu / bateê pá tú / pá tu tu bateê / pá Beaverra da Silva ("Deception / a crazy guy who danced with everything / Delivering the velvet finger"), ). The sound was a northeastern Brazilian samba-rock. The music was acted as if it were a picture of Chico City, with palms, laughter and even participation of another character of Chico, Lingote, more lost than blind in shooting ("phonograph, that's it, you rascal ... you have to call There in that sound ... but what am I doing on that record, malandragem? ").
The A side of Baiano & The New Caetanos was mostly dominated by a mix of samba, rock, forró and lysergia, which would make the joy of ten out of ten bit mangue fans - strangely, no one remembered to record any music Of the album, and look how much of them would give great samples. "Nêga", the second song, was open in funk rhythm with guitar and brass - and soon turned into a samba-rock full of vocal effects, full of guitars with fuzz. In "Cidadão da mata", composed by Chico and Arnaud, more guitars, samba, rock and northeast, combined with sounds of the woods and at least one face-of-wood verse, read by Chico: "I love the woods because in it There are no prisoners. " Chico, who used to imitate the voice and accent of the brothers Caetano and Bethânia on television, opens the forrock "Urubu is angry with the ox", reciting, in Baian, "fear, anguish, suffocation, neurosis, pollution , The interest, the end, nothing new ... people only have the seven industrial sins. " In the lyrics, hunger, social injustice by Medici / Geisel, of illusion, environment and censorship, thanks to the verses and phrases spoken by Chico between a chord and another. Closing, regionalisms in "Aldeia" and "Ciranda" (that cites nominally: "saudade of Caetano, of Gal, of Bethânia, of Gil").

The B-side of the album is full of regionalisms, in songs like the country foliate "Folia de Rei", the cry "Tributo ao regional" and in the lyrics of several tracks. But the mixtures continue, in the forró-soul (!) "Véio Zuza", aided by the own character created by Chico, in the samba-rock "Selva de Feras" (another partnership of Arnaud and Orlandivo, remembering the style of the latter in songs like "Guéri-Guéri"). "Dendalei", mixing northeastern rhythms, accordion and guitar riffs two decades before Raimundos, preached: "I am a fan of free thought." A very complicated speech for the time ... but probably humor and Globo helped to dissolve a series of things that were explicit in the text of Chico Anysio and Arnaud Rodrigues.
The album's success was so great that the filmmakers would be invited to concerts at MIDEM, the famous music fair held in Cannes, France - an invitation rejected by Arnaud and Chico, who preferred a Brazilian tour. The Baiano & Paulinho duo (and the New Caetanos) would still appear in several humorous programs and in other releases - in 1975, Baiano & Os Novos Caetanos 2 was released by Som Livre, and in the 80's other albums would be released. Arnaud, who is now better known to the public by another duo (Xitãoró and Xorãozinho, who plays Marcelo de Nóbrega in the program A Praça é Ours) still shines on another album, Murituri, released in 1974, with more rock, samba, northeastern Psychedelia of shivering hair, in songs like "Murituri" and "Nêga" (the same as Baiano & ...). Chico would also return to the record in live records (Live Chico, Som Livre, 1976) and the pair would still meet to record the album of the character Painho - a kind of satire to the fathers-of-saint, who would begin to become famous In the media during the 80's. On the whole, a speech whose humor ended up providing its absorption by the media, by the people and even by the then masters of power. But, as with many other artists (from Ultraje to Rigor to Falcão and Rogério Skylab), there is much more than just good humor there. Lucky for those who understood.....Brazilian Nuggets...
