A classic funk dancefloor with great “get back buddy”, “con-funk-shun”,“ down and dirty” … dope favorites of dj’s ! The Nite Liters’ classic first album, and a monster batch of funky instrumentals that we’d put up there with the great Meters records on Josie, or the classic JBs LPs on People! Hard drums, choppy guitars & good funky grooves.Deep Funk !!!…~

The Nite-Liters were formed by the great Harvey Fuqua in the early 1960s in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. As a member of the doo-wop group the Moonglows, Fuqua scored a hit with his monster tune “Sincerely” in 1954. He went on to produce acts at Motown, including Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye. After leaving Motown, he secured a production deal with RCA, where he brought back his old instrumental band the Nite-Liters and produced their 1970 eponymous debut album, which has recently been reissued by Nature Sounds. With partner Vernon Bullock, Fuqua combined two other bands with the Nite-Liters to create the mega-group the New Birth. The Nite-Liters would record and release five albums for RCA, and the New Birth eight….~

Limited colored vinyl LP pressing. Experienced crate diggers are no doubt familiar with New Birth, the 17-piece funk ensemble sampled on classic hip-hop records by Wu-Tang Clan, de la Soul, Junior M.A.F.I.A., Black Sheep, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, and many more. The genesis of New Birth can be traced back to The Nite-Liters, a Louisville-based instrumental outfit. Founded in 1963 by Motown songwriter/producer Harvey Fuqua and saxophonist Tony Churchill, The Nite-Liters released a handful of albums in the early ‘70s, scoring a few minor hits and perfecting the sound that would power New Birth to further success as the decade progressed. While much of the The Nite Liters’ early material has been overlooked, their self-titled debut album is worth revisiting. Originally released on RCA Records in 1970, The Nite Liters is a raw, soulful masterpiece that has been sampled by KMD, Ghostface Killah and others…..~
