After recording the debut album, the musicians moved to New York and recorded the second and last album. He is more inclined towards progression. The music of the band goes more into the heavy blues, whose roots, rather in the works of "Cream” and Jimmy Hendrix with a light touch of jazz intonations. The group performed with concerts, received a good press, but did not thrive financially. At the same time, there were rumors about April - that in fact she is a transvestite, since a woman can not play like that. This did not like her husband much and as a result the group disintegrated. April Lawton was engaged in painting and graphic design. Died in 2006 from cardiac arrest. Mitch Mitchell died in November 2008….~

Ramatam was a 1970s rock band featuring Mike Pinera on guitar and vocals, April Lawton on lead guitar, and, for a short time, Mitch Mitchell on drums.

Ramatam was notable for having Lawton, a female lead guitarist. Tom Dowd produced their self-titled debut album in 1972. Pinera was known for his work with Blues Image (“Ride Captain Ride”) and later Iron Butterfly. Mitchell had been a member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The group also included some former members of Janis Joplin’s Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Mitchell’s departure came before the band released its second and final album, In April Came the Dawning of the Red Suns (1973). Pinera left the band after claiming Lawton, who wanted both Pinera and Mitchell out, wanted to turn Ramatam into the “April Lawton Band.”[1] Pinera and Mitchell departed from the band at that point, leaving the focus entirely on Lawton. Jimmy Walker replaced Mitchell at that point and they recorded their second album “In April Came the Dawning of the Red Suns” along with Tommy Sullivan on Bass. The band, shortly thereafter, fractured under the pressure of business and musical direction and broke up in 1974….wiki…~

Ramatam in this release goes through different styles, like if they were trying to satisfy all tastes. I understand that April Lawton was trying to show all her aspects as guitarist.
The show start with a beatlistic ballad with violins, when it begins I believe that they were to do a cover of a Beatles tune that I can’t remember right now, maybe of Lennon. Then they go to what is supossed that the band will do, play hard rock tunes, included sax parts. Then a interlude that will make you watch the player to see if working well (Excerpt…). Soon a beautiful ballad, … and then… the rendition with guitar of The Hymn. Followed by a Carpenter alike tune, including violins, not bad. And we are back to hard rock again, a good faster and energetic song, including a good solo by April. Another interlude: synthesizer and sound efects 1 min long. Then a classic rock theme supported by winds and horns, includes a short solo ending with sounds from the jungle. Then it comes Rhinoceros, a 50s tune including all kind of voice. not bad in any case.
If you like various styles you will be happy, if you wanted hard rocking, you’ll be dissapointed, despite of the quality of the musicians…..by…DaremoS ….~
