Los Destellos is a Peruvian musical group of cumbia and instrumental rock in its beginnings, formed in the Lima district of Rimac, Peru in the year 1966 through the years have passed more than 90 musicians for that reason it is called “La Universidad de la Peruvian Cumbia ”. It is considered the First Tropical Group of Peru.In the middle of 1960 the Peruvian cumbia boom began. It is at that moment that, in the Rímac district, they decide to form a musical group.
In February 1968 Enrique Delgado unveils “Los Destellos”, the group’s first LP. In May of the same year begin the presentations in the morning several cinemas in Lima, such as Perricholi, Excelsior, Idol, Central, among others.
In the 1970s they made presentations at Recepciones Colón and Salón la Selva, and also traveled to different departments of Peru. At first they only made instrumental songs, until the group composed one of their most famous hits: Elsa. From that moment came other songs sung as Muchachita Celosa, Quinceañera, La Pastorcita, El campesino, Tormentos, etc.
At the beginning of 1980 the band dissolved. In 1984, Edith Delgado Montes, sister of Enrique and member of the group since 1973 as a representative, re-launches the group with new musicians recording for the Horóscopo record company. They published the songs Palomita de barro, El enfermo and La prima with musicians from the same room.
In 1996 Enrique Delgado died, leaving the post to Edith Delgado Montes. That same year Los Destellos recorded La guitarra triste, Muchachita Celosa, Mix Destellante, Mal amor, La Colegiala, among other themes, managing to capture a new mass of followers in Peru and abroad.
In 1997, one of the best percussionists of cumbia, joined the group as musical director.
They participated in the soundtrack of the Peruvian film nominated for an Oscar La teta asustada, by Claudia Llosa.
